Yuletide: FRSC Sensitises Motorists on Safe Driving in Ondo

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ondo State Sector Command, on Wednesday sensitised motorists on the need to observe safety protocols during the yuletide season.

The Sector Commander, Dr Samuel Ibitoye, led the sensitisation exercise and distribution of water to motorists along the Ilesha–Akure–Owo highway.

Ibitoye said the gesture was part of the command’s advocacy programme and demonstrated its care and concern for the safety and wellbeing of road users, especially those travelling during the festive period.

“This exercise is part of our advocacy to motorists. There is a need for patience on the road. The water is to help motorists stay refreshed and drive with caution,” he said.

He urged motorists to avoid speeding, overloading and reckless driving, stressing the importance of patience, tolerance and consideration for other road users.

“The message is about safe driving — avoiding unnecessary speed, overloading and road rage. Motorists should care for other road users and give space to aggressive drivers to avoid accidents.

“When traffic occurs, nobody knows who may be injured or killed. So, it is better to remain calm and patient,” Ibitoye said.

The sector commander also advised motorists to shun distracted driving and adopt defensive driving techniques to reduce road crashes during the festive season.

While wishing Nigerians a safe journey and a merry Christmas and New Year, he emphasised the need for strict adherence to traffic rules and regulations.

“We are appealing to Nigerians to know that FRSC cares and shares in their road experiences. If motorists avoid speeding, overloading and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, our highways will be safer,” he added.

One of the motorists, who preferred to remain anonymous, commended the FRSC for the initiative, noting that the sensitisation would encourage drivers to be more cautious on the road.
