Wizkid’s ‘Joro’ Earns Platinum Certification in France

Nigerian Afrobeats star Wizkid has reached another international milestone as his 2019 hit single Joro has been certified Platinum in France.

The certification was announced by the Syndicat National de l’Édition Phonographique (SNEP) on its official Instagram page, confirming that the track surpassed 30 million equivalent streams in the European country to attain Platinum status.

Released in 2019 and produced by Northboi, “Joro” is a mid-tempo Afrobeat track that highlighted Wizkid’s smooth vocals over rhythmic beats. The song served as a promotional single for his album Made in Lagos and enjoyed widespread commercial success.

Upon release, the song broke local streaming records, amassing 10 million views within its first month. Its video also received nominations at the 2020 Headies Awards, including Song of the Year.

Beyond France, “Joro” has earned Gold certification in Canada after surpassing 40,000 units in sales and has accumulated over 330 million views globally, making it one of Africa’s most-watched music videos.

In November 2024, the track crossed 500,000 units in the United States, qualifying it for Gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

The latest achievement marks Wizkid’s fifth SNEP plaque. His previous recognitions in France include Diamond certifications for One Dance and Bella, as well as Gold plaques for “Boom” and the Grammy-nominated hit Essence, which features Tems.

The certification further underscores the growing global influence of Nigerian music and Wizkid’s sustained popularity in the French market.
