The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will be repositioned to better reflect the hopes and expectations of Nigerians.
Wike, a senior figure in the party, made the remark on Sunday during the PDP’s 10th Elective National Convention held in Abuja.
He noted that the PDP was originally founded as a people-driven platform, underscoring the importance of strengthening structures that allow citizens’ voices to be heard and respected.
According to him, the party’s future must be anchored on inclusiveness, unity, and a renewed sense of purpose.
He called on members across the country to come together in rebuilding the party for the collective interest, assuring that no one would be sidelined and that equal opportunities would be available for all to contribute.
Wike also urged party faithful to recommit themselves to loyalty, service, and a shared vision rooted in the founding ideals of the PDP.
He described the convention as a gathering of committed members united under the party’s umbrella, adding that their resilience helped the party overcome a leadership crisis that once threatened its survival.
The minister said members resisted divisive tendencies and worked to restore internal democracy and adherence to the rule of law within the party.
He praised loyalists for their steadfastness during challenging times, noting that their determination disproved critics who doubted the party’s survival.
Wike further commended grassroots supporters for their unwavering commitment, stating that their faith and dedication played a key role in sustaining the party through difficult periods.
He also criticised some former PDP governors who left the party, saying their actions reflected a lack of leadership responsibility, and urged them to reconsider their stance.
The minister concluded by emphasising the need for courage and accountability among leaders, stressing that true leadership is tested during periods of crisis.
