Wike calls on FCT residents to mark Eid-el-Kabir with compassion, love and unity

Abuja, May 27, 2026 — The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on residents of Abuja to observe Eid-el-Kabir with kindness, compassion, and respect for law and order, while remaining security-conscious throughout the festive period.

In his 2026 Eid-el-Kabir message issued on Wednesday, the Minister encouraged residents to embrace the spirit of peace and unity that the celebration represents, stressing the importance of harmony across all communities within the capital.

He assured the public that the FCT Administration had put adequate security measures in place, with relevant agencies fully deployed to ensure a peaceful and incident-free celebration across the territory.

Wike urged residents to show care for vulnerable members of society, avoid the spread of false information, and promote peaceful coexistence in homes, workplaces, markets, and places of worship.

Describing Abuja as a symbol of Nigeria’s diversity, he noted that the city reflects unity across ethnic, cultural, and religious lines, and should continue to serve as a model for national cohesion.

He also encouraged citizens to apply the lessons of Eid-el-Kabir—sacrifice, obedience, and self-discipline—to everyday civic duties that support the development of a modern and well-ordered city.

According to him, the festival is a reminder of Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion and willingness to prioritise collective good over personal interest, a value he said should guide residents in their conduct.

He called on residents to keep the city clean, obey traffic and building regulations, pay taxes promptly, and cooperate with security personnel in maintaining order.

The Minister further stated that the FCT represents what collective sacrifice can achieve, adding that discipline and cooperation are essential for building a peaceful and prosperous capital.

Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, Wike said ongoing projects across the FCT were designed to boost economic activity and improve living standards in both urban and rural areas.

He noted that several major projects would soon be commissioned, adding that they align with the Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at transforming Abuja into a world-class city.

Wike also acknowledged the coincidence of Eid-el-Kabir with this year’s Children’s Day celebration, describing children as central to the future of the territory and the nation.

He urged parents, teachers, and community leaders to use the period to instill values such as discipline, honesty, patriotism, and responsibility in young people, while also ensuring their wellbeing and access to quality services.

The Minister praised FCT pilgrims in Mecca for their orderly conduct and called on them, along with other Muslim faithful, to continue praying for peace, unity, and national progress.

He concluded by extending warm Eid greetings to all residents of the FCT, wishing them a peaceful and spiritually fulfilling celebration, while praying for divine blessings upon the capital territory and Nigeria as a whole.
