WAPA Boosts Digital Literacy for Over 1,100 Women and Youths

The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), has empowered more than 1,100 women and youths with digital business skills and Android smartphones.

Mrs. Bolaji Dada, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, announced this at the conclusion of a three-day Digital Business Skills and Android Empowerment Programme held at the Women Development Centre in Agege, Lagos.

Dada explained that the initiative aligns with WAPA’s mandate to uplift vulnerable and underserved residents of Lagos State, particularly women and youths, by providing practical skills and tools to support sustainable livelihoods.

Participants received training in digital marketing, online visibility, and customer engagement, and were provided with Android smartphones to serve as business tools to scale their enterprises.

“Over 1,100 residents of Lagos have now benefited from this digital empowerment initiative,” she said.

Dada emphasized that in today’s business environment, traditional skills alone are no longer sufficient; entrepreneurship must be paired with digital competence to remain competitive.

“WAPA has intentionally broadened its approach to equip women and youths with digital skills, reflecting the growing influence of technology, online platforms, and artificial intelligence on modern business,” she added.

She noted that fostering digital inclusion strengthens grassroots businesses and expands economic opportunities across Lagos State.

The Commissioner praised the Lagos State governor for his steadfast support of women’s empowerment and development initiatives.

Dada encouraged the beneficiaries to apply the skills and tools responsibly to enhance and grow their businesses, ensuring long-term economic impact.
