National Security Adviser (NSA) Malam Nuhu Ribadu has stated that the ongoing US-Nigeria military and security cooperation has produced concrete operational results. He made the remarks on Thursday in Abuja during the inauguration of the US-Nigeria Joint Working Group.
Ribadu highlighted that the cooperation, particularly since November 2025, has enhanced intelligence sharing, improved coordination between US AFRICOM and Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters, and strengthened engagement across Nigerian security institutions. “It has materially strengthened our counter-terrorism posture and situational awareness across multiple theatres of operation,” he said.
The NSA added that the partnership has moved beyond dialogue to actionable results, supporting better target identification, operational fidelity, joint planning, and disruption of terrorist networks. These efforts have led to the neutralisation of numerous terrorists, destruction of logistics hubs, and interception of key facilitators.
He also commended the US for timely delivery of military assets, including drones, helicopters, and spare parts, procured over the past five years. Ribadu emphasized that the cooperation respects Nigeria’s sovereignty and focuses on joint operations, accountability, and civilian protection.
The NSA noted that President Bola Tinubu has authorized intensified joint operations in high-risk areas, alongside early-warning systems and a national database to track casualties and enhance evidence-based responses. Investigations and prosecutions for attacks on religious communities have also been intensified to ensure justice.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, described the cooperation as the third high-level US engagement since November 2025, reflecting a strategic relationship grounded in trust and shared responsibility.
Under Secretary for Political Affairs, Allison Hooker, affirmed the US commitment, noting the partnership prioritizes countering terrorism, investigating attacks, and holding perpetrators accountable. She also highlighted the joint coordination during the December 25 airstrikes, aimed at degrading terrorists’ capabilities and protecting communities.
Ribadu concluded that Nigeria remains committed to protecting all citizens, regardless of religion, and continues to implement measures that strengthen security and accountability nationwide.
