Abuja — The President of the United Nigerian Youths Congress (UNYC), Naseer Chamber, has called for a renewed commitment to national interest, urging Nigerians to place the country above personal, ethnic, or political considerations.
Chamber made the call in Abuja at the 2025 National Youth Conference, themed “Nigeria First: Leadership, Solution for National Growth.” He said the theme was carefully chosen to promote patriotism and sacrifice for national development.
“Any country that develops or succeeds puts its country first, and there is no alternative to that,” he said.
He noted that while Nigerians love their country, both citizens and political leaders must show stronger commitment to nation-building.
Chamber said the UNYC was committed to youth capacity-building, national unity, and supporting reforms across the military, police, and security architecture. Nigeria’s diversity, he added, should be seen as a strength, not a weakness.
“Fellow Nigerian youths, history is calling us. The future is calling us. Our country is calling us. Let us answer with courage and unity,” he said, stressing that the organisation aims to raise youths who prioritise Nigeria above all else.
He said that putting Nigeria first would ultimately empower young people to challenge incompetence in leadership and demand accountability from those in authority.
Also speaking, the UNYC Director of Programmes, Suleiman Mande, described the conference as a form of national reawakening aimed at addressing key issues and offering solutions.
“We do not just want to talk about problems. We want to provide solutions,” Mande said, expressing hope that policymakers would implement the recommendations discussed at the event.
Mande expressed confidence that Nigeria would overcome its present challenges, but stressed that progress must begin with the people through sensitisation, advocacy, enlightenment campaigns, and the right mindset.
“All the developed countries we admire today did the work themselves. As Nigerians, we can do the same. It takes determination, commitment, and dedication,” he said.
He urged citizens to put the nation above tribalism, personal interest, and political differences, and work collectively toward a stronger and more united Nigeria.
