Ungogo LG Intensifies Efforts Against Drug Abuse, Thuggery in Kano

Authorities in Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State have intensified efforts to improve public safety with the establishment of a committee dedicated to combating drug abuse, thuggery and phone theft within the community.

The committee was inaugurated on Thursday by the Chairman of the council, Alhaji Tijjani Amiru-Bilyaminu, during a stakeholders’ meeting attended by traditional leaders, security personnel and community representatives.

According to a statement issued by the council’s Information Officer, Usman Muhammad, participants at the meeting deliberated on practical measures aimed at strengthening peace, security and community development across the local government area.

Speaking at the event, Amiru-Bilyaminu stressed that addressing social and criminal challenges requires collective responsibility and collaboration among parents, religious leaders, traditional institutions and residents.

The newly constituted committee comprises district heads, village heads and representatives from various security agencies. Its mandate includes formulating strategies to curb criminal activities, improve intelligence gathering and enhance community-based surveillance.

As part of broader efforts to improve security, the chairman also disclosed plans to upgrade Bachirawa Main Market, which he noted has increasingly been used as a refuge by criminal elements operating in the area.

He explained that the proposed redevelopment of the market is expected to strengthen security measures, stimulate commercial growth and provide a safer environment for traders and customers.

Amiru-Bilyaminu reiterated his administration’s determination to safeguard lives and property, calling on residents to cooperate with security agencies and the newly inaugurated committee by reporting suspicious activities promptly.

The initiative forms part of the local government’s wider strategy to create a safer and more secure environment while promoting social and economic development across Ungogo and its surrounding communities.
