UN Secretary-General calls for full implementation of Israel-Hamas Gaza deal

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has urged all parties involved in the Gaza conflict to honour and fully implement the newly reached Israel-Hamas agreement, describing it as a crucial step toward lasting peace.

In a message posted on X on Thursday, Guterres appealed for the immediate release of all hostages and the establishment of a permanent ceasefire. He also called for unrestricted humanitarian access to Gaza, stressing that the ongoing suffering must come to an end.

The UN chief commended the mediation efforts led by the United States, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, which facilitated the negotiations and eventual signing of the deal in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.

He reaffirmed the UN’s readiness to support the implementation of the agreement, deliver expanded humanitarian assistance, and coordinate post-conflict reconstruction initiatives across Gaza.

Guterres further appealed to both sides to use this breakthrough as a foundation for renewed dialogue toward a two-state solution—one that ensures peace, dignity, and security for both Israelis and Palestinians.

The Secretary-General expressed optimism that the truce could reignite global momentum toward resolving one of the world’s most enduring conflicts and pave the way for a more stable Middle East.
