The United Bank for Africa (UBA) has confirmed that no casualties were recorded after a fire incident at one of its branches located on Broad Street, Lagos Island, on Tuesday.
In a statement released later that day, the bank explained that the incident had been misreported on social media as occurring at its head office, UBA House on Marina.
“We are aware of the fire outbreak at a building on Broad Street, Lagos Island, which happens to host one of our branches. Contrary to reports online, the affected location is not UBA House, our head office on Marina.
“We have prioritized the safety of our staff and customers, and everyone is safe,” the statement read.
UBA advised the public to rely on its official communication channels for accurate updates.
Emergency officials at the scene described the situation as minor, noting that it was mostly smoke within the Afriland Tower, a six-storey building on Broad Street. They added that the fire had already been contained before responders arrived, with UBA staff helping to manage the situation.
