Two Men Arraigned in Ibadan for Threat to Life

The Police on Friday arraigned two men, Babatunde Alade and Shittu Owolabi, at an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, over alleged threats to life.

The defendants, both 42, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, breach of peace, and threat to life. They pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Police Prosecutor Insp. Olagoke Adegbenro told the court that the offences occurred on Dec. 7, 2025, at about 12:40 p.m. in the Alakia area of Ibadan. He said the defendants chased the complainant, Mr Bashiru Afolabi, and his workers from his land, threatening to kill him with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.

Adegbenro added that the defendants’ actions also constituted a breach of public peace, as they forcibly prevented Afolabi and his workers from accessing the land, which the defendants claimed had been sold to them.

The offences contravened Sections 249(d), 323, and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

Magistrate Mrs. Olasinmibo Sanusi-Zubair granted the defendants bail of N1 million each, with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case to Feb. 24 for mention.
