Two Killed, 16 Rescued as Building Crumbles in Lagos

LAGOS, June 25, 2026 – Authorities have confirmed that two people lost their lives following the collapse of a two-storey building along Alakija, Old Ojo Road in Lagos.

Emergency responders have so far rescued 16 individuals alive from the wreckage as search and rescue operations continue at the scene.

The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs Margaret Adeseye, disclosed the latest update on Thursday.

According to Adeseye, six more victims were successfully pulled from the debris, bringing the total number of rescued persons to 16.

She added that two bodies had been recovered from the collapsed structure.

“Emergency responders remain on the ground and are working tirelessly to account for everyone affected,” she said.

Adeseye noted that efforts were also being intensified to secure the area and eliminate any potential risks arising from the incident.

She assured residents that relevant authorities would continue to provide updates as rescue activities progressed.

The building caved in on Thursday, prompting a coordinated response from firefighters, rescue personnel and other emergency agencies, who remain engaged in efforts to locate and assist any remaining victims.
