Trump Slams U.S. Supreme Court After Ruling Against Tariff Plan

U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday renewed his criticism of the Supreme Court of the United States following its decision to rule against his broad tariff programme.

The court had ruled that Trump exceeded his presidential authority when he imposed a range of higher tariff rates under an economic emergency law.

In response, the president said he would explore alternative tariff powers and licensing measures, though he did not provide specific details on how the new approach would be implemented.

Over the weekend, Trump announced plans to increase a temporary tariff on U.S. imports from all countries from 10 per cent to 15 per cent, describing it as the maximum level permitted under the relevant law.

In a social media post, he maintained that while the court had rejected the specific emergency-based tariffs, it had upheld other tariff mechanisms available to his administration.

“The court has also approved all other tariffs, of which there are many, and they can all be used in a much more powerful and obnoxious way, with legal certainty, than the tariffs as initially used,” he wrote.

The development marks the latest episode in the ongoing legal and political debate over the scope of presidential authority in trade policy.
