Nigerian troops have stepped up counter-insurgency and anti-crime operations across the country, killing several terrorists, arresting 20 suspects, and rescuing kidnap victims within the past 24 hours.
According to military sources, the troops also seized a cache of arms, ammunition, explosives, motorcycles, and stolen petroleum products during the operations.
In the North-East, forces under Operation Hadin Kai foiled attempted attacks by ISWAP and Boko Haram fighters in Banki, Damboa, and Biu areas of Borno State, neutralising several insurgents. Recovered items included 36 hand grenades, five rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), 700 rounds of ammunition, uniforms, and other logistics. Troops also intercepted 32 bicycles and a truckload of NPK fertilizer believed to be intended for terrorist use.
In the North-Central, personnel of Operation Enduring Peace rescued a kidnapped girl in Manchok, Kaduna State, while troops of Operation Whirl Stroke freed another victim in Benue and recovered weapons.
Elsewhere, security forces arrested kidnappers and armed robbers in Sokoto, Taraba, Kebbi, and Plateau states. In Cross River, troops apprehended a suspected cultist found in possession of a roasted human leg. Additionally, illegal oil refining sites were dismantled in Rivers State, while bunkering facilities were destroyed in Cross River.
Across all theatres of operation between September 19 and 22, troops recovered 10 AK-47 rifles, one FN rifle, five RPG bombs, 36 hand grenades, 39 motorcycles, 32 bicycles, explosives, chemicals, and several vehicles.
Military authorities said the momentum of operations will be sustained to deny terrorists and criminals freedom of action, while also contributing to national food security in line with the Federal Government’s agenda.
