Troops Eliminate Bandits, Destroy Hideouts in Sokoto Operation

Sokoto, June 6, 2026 – Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have carried out a successful offensive operation against armed bandits, neutralising several of them and destroying their hideouts in the highland areas bordering Zamfara State, around Dangulbi and Kurawa communities in Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Security sources confirmed that the operation, which took place on June 4, involved coordinated efforts between the military, other security agencies, and local vigilante groups operating in the area.

According to the source, who requested anonymity, several suspected bandits, including key figures within the criminal network, were killed during the encounter, while others reportedly fled with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.

The operation, carried out by personnel of the 8 Division under Operation Fansan Yamma, was described as a decisive response to ongoing security threats in the region.

The source added that the swift intervention of the troops prevented what could have escalated into a major security incident.

During the engagement, troops reportedly engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to retreat into forested areas extending into neighbouring states.

Weapons and motorcycles were also recovered from the scene as the security operation disrupted the activities of the criminal group.

Although not officially authorised to speak on the matter, the source noted that the bandits suffered significant losses, adding that security operations in the area would be sustained to maintain pressure on criminal elements.

He reiterated the commitment of the military to protecting lives and property, assuring residents of continued operations to restore peace and stability.

The development comes amid growing commendations for security forces in Sokoto State, with government officials and residents praising recent gains recorded in the fight against banditry.
