Tinubu Touches Down in Abu Dhabi for Global Sustainability Talks

President Bola Tinubu arrived in the United Arab Emirates on Sunday night to participate in the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), a major global forum on sustainable development scheduled to commence on Monday.

The presidential aircraft touched down at the Presidential Wing of the Zayed International Airport at about 11:30 p.m. local time.

The visit was confirmed in a statement released by the President’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.

Tinubu was welcomed on arrival by Sheikh Shakhboot Nahyan Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, alongside the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi.

Also present at the airport were Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, as well as members of the Nigerian diplomatic mission in Abu Dhabi.

A number of senior Nigerian officials, including the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, later received the President at his hotel.

Other members of the delegation included the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.

The President arrived in Abu Dhabi from Europe, where he held bilateral consultations with Rwandan President Paul Kagame and French President Emmanuel Macron.

This year’s ADSW, themed “The Nexus of Next, All Systems Go,” will centre on climate action, energy transition, sustainable development and inclusive economic growth.

Tinubu’s participation reflects Nigeria’s growing engagement in international sustainability initiatives and its efforts to deepen strategic relations with the United Arab Emirates.
