Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, daughter of Bola Tinubu, has introduced a scholarship programme that will support more than 1,000 financially disadvantaged students seeking admission into Havilla University in Cross River State.
She announced the initiative on Tuesday as part of activities marking her second anniversary as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the university’s Governing Council.
Tinubu-Ojo explained that the programme would provide tuition-free scholarships worth about ₦400,000 per student, beginning from the 2025/2026 academic session.
According to her, the initiative reflects her dedication to promoting youth development and expanding access to education.
She described education as a powerful tool that bridges social and economic gaps, stressing that every young Nigerian should have the opportunity to obtain quality learning that can shape a better future.
Tinubu-Ojo also praised the university’s Chancellor, Jones Tangban, for his leadership, which she said had contributed to the institution’s growing reputation within Africa’s higher education space.
She encouraged students who will benefit from the scholarship to take full advantage of the opportunity and remain committed to their studies.
In his remarks, Tangban commended Tinubu-Ojo for the gesture, noting that although the scholarships are privately funded, the initiative reflects the spirit of the administration’s development vision.
He also expressed appreciation for her contributions to the growth of the university.
As part of the anniversary activities, Tinubu-Ojo inaugurated the Folasade Tinubu-Ojo Complex at the institution and performed the foundation-laying ceremony for the proposed Folasade Tinubu-Ojo Centre for Vocational Studies on the campus.
