Abuja, May 15, 2026 President Bola Tinubu has appointed Ms. Adedayo Laniyi as the new Director-General of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development (MBNCWD) for a four-year term.
The appointment was conveyed in a letter signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and issued through the Permanent Secretary of the General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Kana.
According to the statement, the appointment took effect from April 18 and was made in line with Section 7(1) and (3) of the National Centre for Women Development (Amendment) Act, 2023.
Tinubu also approved the composition of the Governing Council for the centre.
The council will be chaired by Joan Idonije, while Lois Auta, Jamila Sarki, Aisha Baiyee, Jumoke Okoya-Thomas and Anne Agom-Eze will serve as members.
The presidency congratulated both the newly appointed director-general and members of the governing council, wishing them success in their responsibilities.
Laniyi previously contested the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in 2022 for the Federal Capital Territory but emerged as the first runner-up behind Angulu Zakari, a former member of the House of Representatives representing Abaji/Gwagwalada/Kwali/Kuje Federal Constituency.
In 2023, she was appointed Mandate Secretary by President Tinubu as part of efforts to strengthen governance within the Federal Capital Territory Administration.
She is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Management Consultants and holds certification as a Management Consultant, with experience in public administration and leadership development.
