Tinted Glass, Siren Restrictions: Zone 5 Command Kicks Off Enforcement

The Zone 5 Police Command has commenced the enforcement of regulations on tinted vehicle glasses and the unauthorized use of sirens.

The command, which covers Edo and Delta States in the South-South region, disclosed this in a statement issued by its spokesperson, SP Tijani Momoh, on Tuesday in Abuja.

According to the statement, the clampdown is in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and applies to both factory-fitted and aftermarket tinted glasses.

Momoh quoted the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the zone, Salma-Dogo Garba, as saying that the enforcement would also extend to the existing ban on unauthorized sirens.

Garba further explained that the exercise would target vehicles using revolving lights, SPY number plates, unallocated official number plates, and unregistered vehicles.

“In view of this, motorists who wish to retain tinted glasses on their vehicles must apply through the official portal, www.possap.gov.ng, and proceed to their respective state headquarters for physical verification,” Garba stated.

He added that vehicle owners unwilling to process a permit are expected to remove the tint or replace it with transparent glass in compliance with the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 2004.

The AIG directed officers to carry out the exercise with professionalism and warned against harassment or extortion, stressing that any erring personnel would be sanctioned along with their supervisors.

He appealed to motorists for cooperation and urged the public to report any misconduct to the nearest police station or the zonal command’s complaints channels.

The police authority emphasized that this nationwide enforcement, ordered by the Inspector-General, is designed to enhance public safety and curb the use of tinted vehicles and unauthorized sirens for criminal activity.
