As the 9th National Youth Games moves toward its conclusion on Saturday, Team Lagos has surged to the top of the medal standings with a total of 72 medals.
The Lagos side currently leads with 38 gold, 18 silver, and 16 bronze medals. Determined to end Team Delta’s long dominance, the Lagos athletes are pushing hard to emerge overall champions of the 2025 edition of the games.
Team Edo sits in second place, while defending champions, Team Delta, occupy third position on the medal table. With six sporting events still to be decided, sports observers believe Delta still has a chance to reclaim the top spot.
As of Friday, Team Edo had 27 gold, 11 silver, and 16 bronze medals, while Delta followed with 23 gold, 27 silver, and 27 bronze medals. The remaining events expected to wrap up include badminton, athletics, wrestling, ayo, kickboxing, and abula.
The final day of competition promises to be decisive, as Lagos aims to end Delta’s reign and claim the crown at the youth games.
Sports enthusiasts across the country are keenly watching the medal chase unfold.
Whichever team emerges champion, the 9th National Youth Games will be remembered for its intensity, surprises, and historic performances.
