Seven Feared Dead, 70 Injured in Kano Single-Vehicle Accident

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reported that a lone road crash in Kano State left seven people dead, 70 others injured, and 28 unhurt.

The Sector Commander, Idris Muhammed-Lawal, made this known in a statement issued on Sunday in Kano and signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Labaran.

He explained that the incident occurred around 8:35 a.m. along Hadejia Road, near Kwanar Danja, prompting an immediate rescue response by FRSC officials.

According to him, the corps received a distress alert at about 8:35 a.m. and deployed its rescue team, which arrived at the scene within five minutes.

The crash involved a commercial DAF trailer with registration number KTG 467 YG, which was conveying passengers alongside goods.

A total of 105 persons were said to be involved in the accident.

“Seven people lost their lives, while 70 others — comprising 55 males and 15 females — sustained varying degrees of injuries,” he stated.

Muhammed-Lawal attributed the crash to excessive speeding and loss of control, worsened by the unsafe practice of conveying passengers together with goods.

He added that the incident was a single-vehicle crash, noting that the road was in good condition and no items were recovered at the scene.

The injured victims were taken to several hospitals, including Sir Sunusi Specialist Hospital, Gezawa, where 24 victims were admitted; General Hospital, Gezawa, which received another 24 patients; Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, which treated 20 male victims; and Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital, Nasarawa, where seven casualties were taken.

The sector commander expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

He cautioned motorists, particularly commercial drivers, against overspeeding, reckless driving, and the illegal transport of passengers in goods vehicles, urging strict adherence to traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies.
