Sanwo-Olu Urges Nigerians to Back Tinubu, Security Forces in Anti-Terror Fight

Lagos, June 7, 2026 – Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has appealed to Nigerians to remain steadfast and united in the face of ongoing security challenges, urging citizens to support President Bola Tinubu and security agencies in efforts to combat terrorism and criminal activities across the country.

In a statement issued on Sunday following recent attacks in some parts of Nigeria, the governor described the incidents as regrettable but expressed confidence that they could be overcome through collective action and resilience.

Sanwo-Olu said Nigerians should not allow the actions of violent groups and criminal elements to undermine their faith in the nation or weaken their determination to overcome adversity.

“We are Nigerians. Our will is strong and our spirit is unbreakable.

“This is the time we must stand united as one people behind our nation’s leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and all of our armed forces,” he said.

The governor stressed that insecurity affects all citizens regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity or religious background, noting that support for national security efforts should transcend partisan interests.

“The forces of evil confronting our nation do not ask for our political affiliation before they kill, maim and destroy.

“So must our resolve and support for our nation be devoid of political leanings and divisive rhetorics,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu extended his condolences to families and communities affected by recent attacks and encouraged Nigerians to remember the victims in their prayers.

“Every life lost is a tragedy. Every community threatened by violence deserves our solidarity, support and protection.

“We must continue to keep the victims of these unfortunate incidents in our thoughts and prayers,” he said.

He also expressed concern over the abduction of teachers and students in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State, calling for continued prayers and support for their safe return.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s history, the governor noted that the country had weathered numerous political, economic and social difficulties and had consistently emerged stronger through resilience and unity.

“Our country has faced many challenges throughout its history.

“Yet, through resilience, courage and unity of purpose, we have always emerged stronger. This moment will be no different,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu urged citizens to remain vigilant and assist security agencies by providing useful information and cooperating with lawful authorities.

“As citizens, we all have a stake in the security and stability of our country.

“Government alone cannot win this battle without the support, cooperation, vigilance and active intelligence sharing by local communities,” he said.

The governor reiterated his confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership and the capacity of security and intelligence agencies to tackle insecurity and dismantle criminal networks across the country.

“I wish to reiterate my confidence in the leadership of President Tinubu and in the ability of our security and intelligence services to defeat the forces of evil unleashing terror attacks on soft targets within the civilian population,” he said.

He also commended members of the armed forces and other security personnel for their dedication and sacrifices in safeguarding the nation, urging citizens to continue encouraging and praying for them.

According to him, overcoming the country’s security challenges will require patience, commitment and a shared sense of purpose among all Nigerians.

Sanwo-Olu encouraged young people to remain optimistic, families to stay resilient and security operatives to remain focused on their responsibilities.

He maintained that Nigeria would ultimately overcome the current challenges, expressing confidence that unity, courage and cooperation would prevail over fear and violence.
