Sallah: FEMD, foundation donate meat packages to 300 Abuja IDPs

Abuja, May 28, 2026 — About 300 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Federal Capital Territory received meat packages from the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD) and Near Foundation as part of activities marking the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

Speaking during the distribution exercise in Abuja on Wednesday, Assistant Director of FEMD, Mr Shuaibu Usman, said the initiative was organised to support displaced families facing economic hardship.

According to him, many IDPs are unable to afford basic needs during festive periods, making the intervention necessary to ease their burden and ensure they are not excluded from the celebrations.

He noted that the programme was part of broader efforts aimed at supporting vulnerable groups and promoting inclusiveness within society.

Usman explained that the donation would help beneficiaries celebrate the festival with dignity and feel connected to the larger community.

He added that the collaboration formed part of ongoing humanitarian partnerships designed to reduce the challenges confronting displaced persons living in the nation’s capital.

Also speaking, the Director of the Qurban Programme at Near Foundation, Mr Salaudeen Abdulhakeem, said the organisation distributed 300 packs of cow meat in fulfilment of its humanitarian mission.

He explained that the foundation had maintained a working relationship with FEMD since 2021 to strengthen assistance for vulnerable and distressed communities, especially during religious celebrations.

Abdulhakeem urged corporate organisations, civil society groups and other humanitarian bodies to intensify efforts toward supporting people affected by hardship across the country.

He stated that one of the key focus areas of the foundation was providing relief materials and humanitarian aid to poor and vulnerable residents, particularly amid current economic difficulties.

According to him, the partnership with FEMD has also helped the foundation identify displaced and vulnerable persons within the FCT who require urgent assistance.

Reacting to the gesture, the Women Leader of Yimi IDP Camp in Apo, Mrs Halita Joseph, appreciated both organisations for remembering the camp residents during the Sallah celebration.

She described the support as an act of compassion and encouraged more Nigerians and organisations to extend assistance to displaced and vulnerable communities.
