Rwanda’s head coach, Adel Amrouche, has expressed disappointment following his team’s 1-0 loss to the Super Eagles in the 2026 World Cup qualifier held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Saturday.
The result boosted Nigeria’s chances in the qualifiers, moving them to third place with 10 points. The Super Eagles now prepare for a crucial away clash against table-toppers South Africa, who lead with 16 points.
Speaking at the post-match briefing, Amrouche admitted that his side failed to put enough pressure on the Nigerian team.
“When we lose, we are not happy. I am not happy because the Super Eagles defeated my team,” he said.
The Rwandan coach, however, praised his goalkeeper, Ntwari Fiacre, for making several key saves during the encounter. He noted that his team had a tactical plan to challenge Nigeria but were unable to convert it into victory.
“Yes, we came with a plan to beat Nigeria. We held our opponent and tracked the performance of each player during the game. Sometimes goals don’t come from direct pressure but from mistakes. We have learned from this game, and it will make my players more focused in the future,” Amrouche explained.
He further described the Super Eagles as a strong side and extended respect to their coach, noting that while his own squad played well, Nigeria proved the luckier team on the day.
