Nigeria’s First Lady, Sen. Remi Tinubu, has empowered 250 persons living with disabilities (PWDs) in Ondo State with a total of N50 million to boost their livelihood and business prospects.
Each beneficiary received N200,000 cash support during the event held in Akure. The First Lady was represented by Ondo State’s First Lady, Mrs Seun Aiyedatiwa.
The initiative is part of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Economic Empowerment Programme, which is currently being implemented across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Wednesday’s event also coincided with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Mrs Tinubu said the programme reflects the administration’s commitment to inclusive growth.
“Our nation becomes stronger when everyone is given the opportunity to contribute. An inclusive society is one where we create avenues for all citizens to use their talents for collective progress,” she said.
She explained that the financial support is designed to help PWDs grow small businesses, restock existing ventures, and strengthen their economic independence. The initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises programmes that ensure no vulnerable group is left behind.
The First Lady highlighted ongoing social-investment efforts which have reached flood victims, displaced persons, widows, the elderly and families of fallen heroes. She added that the RHI food outreach scheme has so far reached 22 states and the FCT.
Beneficiaries were urged to use the grant responsibly to improve their livelihoods.
Ondo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Seun Osamaye, praised the First Lady for the gesture and assured that more support initiatives would follow.
Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Mr Owolabi Olaiya thanked Mrs Tinubu and noted that the RHI programmes have continued to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Nigerians living with disabilities.
