The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Ajibola Basiru, has reaffirmed the party’s respect for civil servants, stressing that comments perceived as disparaging toward public workers do not represent the position of the APC.
Basiru made the clarification while meeting with former officials of the Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) at his residence in Osogbo.
He stated that civil servants remain important contributors to governance and development in Osun State and are key stakeholders in the political process.
According to him, the APC has never endorsed statements capable of undermining the dignity or contributions of workers in the state.
Basiru said individuals who make derogatory remarks about civil servants while speaking publicly are expressing personal views and not those of the party.
He maintained that workers are respected members of society whose knowledge of governance and public administration makes them influential voices within their communities.
The APC chieftain emphasized that no individual has the authority to insult civil servants in the name of the party.
He appealed to workers not to hold the APC responsible for comments made by persons acting independently, insisting that such statements should not be interpreted as the party’s official position.
Basiru also cautioned party members and aspirants against overconfidence ahead of the Aug. 15 governorship election in Osun State.
He stressed that electoral success would require unity, reconciliation and sustained grassroots mobilisation across wards and polling units.
According to him, the party must work diligently to engage members who may feel aggrieved and ensure that internal differences do not affect its chances at the polls.
Basiru urged all APC stakeholders to rally behind the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, describing the election as a priority for the party.
He noted that individual political ambitions should be secondary to the collective goal of securing victory in the governorship contest.
The APC National Secretary further called on party members to avoid actions capable of creating division, urging them to remain focused on strengthening the party and improving its prospects in the upcoming election.
He expressed confidence that unity, hard work and effective mobilisation would enhance the party’s chances of returning to power in Osun State.
