Police Service Commission Approves DIG Appointment, Promotes Hundreds of Senior Officers

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of Mr. Mohammed Gumel as a Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) and promoted several senior police officers across various ranks.

The Head of Protocol and Public Affairs of PSC, Mr. Torty Kalu, announced the approvals on Thursday in Abuja, explaining that the selections followed rigorous written examinations and oral interviews presided over by PSC Chairman, Mr. Hashimu Argungu.

Before his appointment, Gumel served as Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of the Community Policing Project (CPP), Research, and Planning.

In addition, seven Commissioners of Police (CPs) were promoted to AIG, while 13 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were elevated to CPs. The newly promoted AIGs include Ihebom Chukwuma, Maxwell Olatokunbo, Abaniwonda Olufemi, Alonyenu Idu, Lawal Ayodeji, Agene Emmanuel, and Vungmoh Kwaimo. The new CPs are Babalola Johnson, Ali Fage, Cyril Obiozo, Adepegba Adetoye, Tabitha Bako, Ofem Arikpo, Edwin Ogbeghagha, Audu Bosso, Samuel Gimba, Alhaji Danladi, Richard Gara, Lasisi Titilola, and John Obiuagbaka.

Further promotions saw 30 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) elevated to DCP, 51 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to ACP, and 542 Superintendents of Police (SPs) to CSP. Additionally, 119 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) were promoted to SP, while 12 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) advanced to DSP.

Chairman Argungu congratulated the newly promoted officers, urging them to embrace their new responsibilities with dedication, uphold effective policing, protect lives and property, and maintain law and order.
