The Police Command in Enugu State has recovered a cut-to-size single-barrelled gun from a fleeing male suspect at a public gathering in the state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday in Enugu by the Command’s Spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe.
Ndukwe said the firearm was recovered by operatives attached to the Igbo-Eze South Police Division on Dec. 26.
According to him, the operatives were on routine security surveillance around the Jimoh Rauf Badamosi (JRB) Mini Stadium, Ibagwa-Aka, in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area, when they observed a male suspect holding a black polythene bag in a suspicious manner.
He said that upon sighting the police operatives, the suspect abandoned the bag and fled the scene before he could be apprehended.
“The abandoned bag was immediately recovered and searched, leading to the discovery of a cut-to-size single-barrelled gun concealed inside,” Ndukwe said.
He added that efforts were ongoing to identify, arrest, and determine the criminal intentions of the fleeing suspect.
The spokesman said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Mamman Giwa, had urged residents to remain law-abiding and security-conscious.
He also encouraged members of the public to promptly report suspicious persons or criminal activities to the nearest police station.
