The Nigeria Police Force has deployed tactical teams, helicopters, and drones across Anambra State to enhance security and ensure a peaceful and credible governorship election on Nov. 8.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated this in Awka on Sunday, noting that the deployment was part of strategic measures to reinforce security arrangements ahead of the polls.
According to him, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, approved the deployment to strengthen local formations with advanced technical support and manpower, including aerial surveillance systems.
Receiving the tactical teams, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra, Ikioye Orutugu, commended the I-G for his continued support and commitment to safeguarding lives and property in the state.
He said the aerial surveillance would complement land patrols by tactical units, intelligence operatives, and police special squads stationed across the 21 local government areas.
Orutugu explained that the combined operations would enhance visibility policing, intelligence-led actions, and swift response to any emerging threats.
He added that the use of helicopters and surveillance drones would enable real-time monitoring of sensitive areas, border communities, and potential flashpoints.
The CP further reiterated the command’s readiness to work closely with other security agencies to maintain peace and order before, during, and after the election.
He urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative with law enforcement officers by promptly reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via the command’s hotlines: 07039194332 or 08039334002.
Orutugu assured the public of the command’s full preparedness to guarantee a secure environment where citizens can exercise their rights freely and safely during the electoral process.
