Police Charge Man to Court Over ₦370,000 Property Theft

The Lagos State Police on Wednesday arraigned a 26-year-old man, Toeeb Ibrahim, before the Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court over the alleged theft of property valued at ₦370,000.

Ibrahim, whose place of residence was not disclosed, is facing charges of stealing and disturbing public peace.

He pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him.

The prosecution, led by Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences around 12:35 a.m. on July 27 in the Apodo area of Ilogbo, Lagos.

Ekpo alleged that Ibrahim unlawfully entered the residence of one Kudirat Salami and stole items worth ₦370,000. He added that the defendant’s actions created panic and disrupted public order in the neighborhood.

According to the prosecutor, the accused was apprehended and later handed over to law enforcement authorities for prosecution.

The offences, he noted, are in violation of Sections 287 and 168 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.

Presiding over the case, Chief Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦500,000, with two sureties in the same amount. The court specified that one of the sureties must be self-employed.

The matter was adjourned until September 3 for mention
