The Benue State Police Command has taken into custody two individuals in connection with the death of a serving National Youth Service Corps member, Benjamin Msughaondo.
Police spokesperson, DSP Edet Udeme, confirmed the development during a briefing in Makurdi on Friday, stating that the incident occurred around midnight on Sunday at Major settlement, near the Buruku Local Government Secretariat.
She explained that a group of hoodlums had accused the corps member of stealing a motorcycle and attacked him without verifying the allegation.
Preliminary investigations, however, showed that the claim was false, as available records indicated that the motorcycle actually belonged to the deceased.
Two suspects have so far been arrested in relation to the case, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend others who fled the scene.
She added that investigations were ongoing to ensure that all those involved in the crime are identified and brought before the law.
