The Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has appointed Mr. Sydney Sparrow as its Acting National President, following the suspension of the former President, Mr. Pretty Okafor.
PMAN National Treasurer, Mr. Baba Ojonugwa, disclosed the development in a statement made available to newsmen in Owerri on Friday. He said the decision was reached during an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on the night of December 25, 2025, convened to address serious governance and constitutional issues affecting the association.
“Acting in line with powers vested in it by the PMAN Constitution, the NEC resolved to suspend the President pending the outcome of a full investigation and disciplinary process,” Ojonugwa said.
The suspension followed repeated violations of constitutional provisions, abuse of office, disregard for due process, and actions deemed detrimental to PMAN’s welfare, credibility, and integrity. The NEC also voided all unilateral appointments, reinstated the National Treasurer, and initiated a forensic audit of PMAN’s accounts and joint venture agreements.
Sparrow, currently PMAN Governor for the FCT, has been nominated to serve as Acting National President. Ojonugwa reassured members that the NEC’s actions were corrective rather than punitive and emphasized the council’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and protecting the interests of Nigerian musicians nationwide.
