PDP National Chairman Assures Nigerians of Internal Democracy, Transparency Ahead of 2027

The National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki, has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to internal democracy, fairness and transparency as it positions itself for the 2027 general elections.

Turaki gave the assurance on Wednesday in Abuja during a meeting between the newly constituted National Working Committee (NWC) and PDP members of the National Assembly.

He pledged to run an open-door administration and end practices such as impunity, manipulation and favouritism within the party.

“I want to assure Nigerians, especially PDP members nationwide, that we will listen and respond to their needs promptly and transparently,” Turaki said. “There will no longer be room for impunity, manipulation or favouritism. Nigerians will be allowed to aspire and achieve their goals. PDP is now a true party.”

He described the meeting as strategic, noting that the National Assembly caucus remains central to the party’s mission to reclaim power in 2027.

“Together with members of the National Assembly, we will transform Nigeria through the instrumentality of the PDP,” he added.

Speaking on behalf of the Senate PDP caucus, Sen. Abdul Ningi commended the NWC for convening the meeting and praised the new leadership’s direction.

Ningi said the challenges facing the PDP were man-made and therefore solvable, stressing that the party has the resources and capacity to return to power.

“We know the issues in PDP are man-made. Man-made problems require man-made solutions,” he said. “Our thinking is beyond 2027. Anyone seeking to terminate PDP over 2027 issues is not aligned with our values.”

Also speaking, the Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, Ali Isa, reaffirmed the lawmakers’ readiness to work with Turaki’s leadership to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy.

He urged Nigerians to support the PDP, noting the party’s continued capacity to advise, strengthen and stabilize the country’s democratic institutions.
