PDP Confident of Victory in 2026 FCT Area Council Elections

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has expressed confidence ahead of the Feb. 21, 2026 area council elections, declaring that the party is well-positioned for victory.

The party’s FCT Publicity Secretary, Josephine Itoyah-Splendor, stated this in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, dismissing concerns that internal challenges within the PDP could affect its electoral performance.

Itoyah-Splendor said the party’s candidates are credible individuals of integrity and commitment, noting that they were duly approved by the Umar Damagum-led National Working Committee at the time of their emergence.

She added that the legitimacy of the candidates had been further affirmed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“Let it be known that the PDP is united and focused. We are not merely participating in the elections; we are fully prepared to win decisively,” she said.

According to her, residents of the FCT are well aware of the PDP’s record of governance, stability and development, stressing that the party’s vision is grounded in proven service rather than empty promises.

She dismissed what she described as malicious propaganda aimed at questioning the eligibility of PDP candidates, attributing it to opponents unsettled by the party’s strength and preparedness.

“The truth is clear. All documents relating to our candidates were properly signed and validated by the Damagum-led executive.

“The legitimacy of our candidates remains intact and is not affected by any internal issues the party may have faced,” she said.

Itoyah-Splendor insisted that there were no factions or divisions within the PDP concerning the FCT elections, adding that the party’s national leadership remained fully supportive of the FCT chapter.

She urged party supporters across the territory to remain steadfast and mobilised ahead of the polls.

The PDP spokesperson also called on residents of the FCT to vote out non-performing parties and support the PDP, which she described as the only party with a consistent record of delivering on its promises.

“PDP is alive, united and ready. Victory is not just possible; it is inevitable.

“The PDP remains the torchbearer of Nigeria’s democracy and the true party of progress,” she said.
