The wife of the Oyo State Governor, Mrs Tamunumini Makinde, on Thursday visited the first baby of the year at Adeoyo Maternity Hospital, Yemetu, Ibadan.

Mrs Makinde, who was represented by the Oyo State Head of Service, Mrs Olubunmi Oni, also visited two other newborns at Adaramagbo Primary Health Centre, Olomi, and Moniya General Hospital, where she presented gifts to the families.

The first baby, a boy weighing 3.6kg, was delivered via caesarean section to Mrs Bilikisu Lamidi at 12:01 a.m. at Adeoyo Maternity Hospital.

The second baby, a girl weighing 3.1kg, was born to Mrs Rihanat Olajire at 12:46 a.m. at Adaramagbo PHC, Olomi.

The third baby, a boy weighing 3kg, was delivered to Mrs Ummukhairi Musa at 4:50 a.m. at Moniya General Hospital, Ibadan.

While celebrating with the families, Mrs Makinde gifted ₦300,000 to the first baby, ₦250,000 to the second, and ₦200,000 to the third. She also presented baby hampers to the newborns, while other babies in the hospitals received cash gifts.

She urged mothers to take proper care of their children and practice six months of exclusive breastfeeding, noting that it offers significant health benefits in addition to immunisation.

Mrs Makinde also advised mothers to refrain from cursing their children, encouraging them instead to pray for their well-being and future.

She commended healthcare workers, including doctors and nurses, for their dedication and urged them to continue their good work in the new year.

“The governor’s wife and her team are here to wish the families of the newborns a happy new year and to congratulate them on the arrival of their babies,” she said.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Olajire, expressed gratitude to Mrs Makinde and her team for the visit and generous gifts.
