Osun 2026: APC Still Strong Despite Defections, Says Party Chieftain

Osogbo, June 7, 2026 – A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has expressed confidence that recent resignations from the party will not affect its structure, influence, or chances in the upcoming Aug. 15 governorship election.

Speaking with journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye said defections are a normal occurrence in politics, especially during election seasons, and should not be seen as a sign of weakness within the party.

He maintained that despite recent exits, the APC remains firmly positioned to reclaim power in the state.

According to him, the party continues to enjoy deep grassroots support across wards, polling units, communities, and local government areas, making it the dominant political force in Osun.

“The APC in Osun is bigger than any individual or group.

“Our party is built on a strong foundation that has stood the test of time. We have a resilient structure, committed members, and widespread support across the state.

“Anyone suggesting that the party has been weakened by the departure of a few individuals is disconnected from the reality on ground.

“The strength of the APC lies in its people, and the people remain firmly with the party,” he said.

The former lawmaker also noted that the emergence of Bola Oyebamiji as the party’s governorship candidate has further energized members and supporters ahead of the election.

He described Oyebamiji as a widely accepted candidate whose experience, accessibility, humility, and public service record have strengthened his appeal among voters.

“There is hardly any community in Osun where the AMBO movement is not gaining traction.

“His support cuts across political, religious, age, and professional lines. It is organic and growing steadily.

“No other candidate currently matches the level of goodwill and momentum he enjoys across the state,” he said.

Oyintiloye added that ongoing consultations, reconciliation efforts, and grassroots mobilisation within the party have helped strengthen internal unity ahead of the polls.

He urged party members and leaders to remain focused and intensify mobilisation efforts, stressing that victory would depend on unity and sustained commitment.

“This is a period for unity and engagement, not distraction.

“Our structures are intact, our supporters are motivated, and our candidate is widely accepted.

“We are confident and fully prepared for victory,” he said.

He further called on party leaders to continue reconciliation efforts and address internal grievances to prevent further defections, noting that collective effort would be crucial to the party’s success at the polls.
