Residents of Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area in Lagos State have been encouraged to take part in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise slated for Saturday.
The appeal was made by the Chairman of the council, Akinola Idowu, in a statement released on Thursday through his Chief Press Secretary, Sunday Adefamoye.
Idowu disclosed that the sanitation exercise would take place between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., urging residents across the LCDA to participate actively in keeping their surroundings clean.
He explained that activities during the exercise would include clearing drainage channels, disposing of waste properly and tidying residential environments.
According to the chairman, the initiative is aimed at improving environmental cleanliness and curbing the spread of diseases within the community.
He further stated that the council was collaborating with the Lagos State Waste Management Authority and Private Sector Participants to ensure smooth collection and disposal of refuse.
Idowu noted that two compacting trucks had been provided to aid waste evacuation and improve sanitation operations within the area.
He stressed that maintaining a clean environment requires the collective effort of all residents, adding that healthier communities can only be achieved through shared responsibility.
The council chairman also said the monthly exercise would help promote civic consciousness and encourage residents to adopt cleanliness as part of their daily lifestyle.
He added that consistent sanitation practices remain important in preventing flooding, reducing health risks and supporting safer living conditions in densely populated communities.
According to him, the initiative also supports the Lagos State Government’s broader campaign for cleaner and healthier neighbourhoods across the state.
