Seplat Energy Plc has reaffirmed that oil and gas will continue to play a critical role in Nigeria’s energy mix for the foreseeable future, stressing the need for operators to conduct their businesses responsibly, efficiently and sustainably.
The position was articulated by the company’s Director, Gas and New Energy, Mr Okechukwu Mba, who represented Seplat’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Roger Brown, at a high-level climate roundtable in Lagos.
The roundtable was organised by the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX Group) in partnership with DEG, Germany’s development finance institution, and Africa Foresight Group (AFG).
Speaking at the forum, Mba said the key issue confronting Nigeria’s energy sector was not whether oil and gas would remain relevant, but how industry players manage their environmental, social and economic responsibilities.
According to him, as Nigeria navigates the global energy transition, operators must balance energy security, economic growth and climate commitments by adopting responsible practices that support sustainability while meeting the country’s development needs.
