The National Identity Management Commission has received approval for its dedicated Scheme of Service from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, a development expected to strengthen career administration and institutional efficiency within the agency.
The commission described the approval as a landmark achievement and the first of its kind since its establishment, noting that it provides a structured framework for career advancement, staff development and organisational operations.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, Dr Kayode Adegoke.
According to Adegoke, the Scheme of Service forms part of ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing the commission’s capacity and improving service delivery in line with its statutory responsibilities.
“The framework outlines the various staff cadres, conditions for advancement, job descriptions, qualification requirements and professional standards applicable across the commission.
“It also aligns with existing Public Service Rules and other guidelines governing the federal civil service.”
Speaking during the presentation of the approved document, Mr Imirhe Nwagolo, Deputy Director overseeing Scheme of Service matters in the Organisational Design Department of the OHCSF, commended NIMC for fulfilling all necessary requirements for the approval.
He noted that only a few federal government agencies currently operate with a dedicated Scheme of Service, making the achievement a notable one for the commission.
Also speaking, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NIMC, Mrs Rhoda Jackden, described the approval as a major step forward in the institution’s development.
She thanked the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation for its support and reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to fully implementing the provisions of the scheme.
According to Jackden, the framework will provide clearer pathways for career growth, improve workforce management and enhance operational effectiveness across the organisation.
The approved Scheme of Service introduces Enrolment, Card and Commercial Cadres to complement the commission’s existing workforce structure and broaden its professional capacity.
The new framework is expected to support NIMC’s drive towards building a more skilled and efficient workforce while strengthening the delivery of identity management services across the country.
