The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) has reported that 48 persons lost their lives in 82 road crashes across the state between September and December 2025, with 165 others sustaining varying degrees of injuries.
TRACE’s spokesperson, Mr. Babatunde Akinbiyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abeokuta. He noted that compared with the same period in 2024, the number of fatalities increased by 54.17 percent.
However, Akinbiyi stated that the number of persons injured and the total cases of road traffic crashes reduced by 13.94 percent and 12.20 percent, respectively.
“Statistical records show that between September and December 2024, a total of 92 crashes were recorded, resulting in 188 injuries and 22 deaths during the period,” he explained.
The spokesperson highlighted a notable decline in pedestrian involvement in crashes, down by 66.67 percent. Similarly, commercial and private vehicle crash involvement reduced by 150 percent and 81.25 percent, respectively. Bus involvement dropped by 52.94 percent, articulated vehicles by 37.5 percent, and cars by 41.67 percent.
Akinbiyi clarified that the figures were based on TRACE and Nigeria Police Force records within areas under their monitoring, and may not reflect the full scope of crashes across the state.
