The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Fatai Quadri, who was seen in a viral video allegedly assaulting his wife, Rukayat, in Ilese-Ijebu.
Police spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, disclosed in a statement on Saturday that the incident happened on Monday and was reported to Igbeba Divisional Police Headquarters in Ijebu-Ode.
According to her, the suspect was captured in the video punching his wife, leaving her with visible injuries, before operatives intervened and arrested him.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the violence stemmed from a marital dispute over allegations of infidelity. Odutola explained that the suspect had allegedly transferred ownership of a 10-room apartment, jointly built with his wife, to another woman — an action believed to have sparked the attack.
The police confirmed that the victim is currently receiving medical treatment, while Quadri remains in custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, reiterated the command’s firm stance against domestic violence, warning that anyone found guilty of such acts would face the full weight of the law.
He urged victims and members of the public to report incidents of abuse promptly, stressing that silence emboldens perpetrators, while timely reporting guarantees protection and justice.
