NYSC Has Played Major Role in Nigeria’s Growth, Says Osun Coordinator

The National Youth Service Corps in Osun State has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting national unity and contributing to Nigeria’s development through youth service and community engagement programmes.

Speaking during a rally held in Osogbo to commemorate the 53rd anniversary of the scheme, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Ekeng Kubiangha, said the programme had remained a strong platform for fostering integration and patriotism among young Nigerians since its establishment in 1973.

According to him, the scheme has continued to make meaningful contributions to sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and community development across the country.

Kubiangha noted that the impact of the NYSC on national growth and social cohesion remains significant, adding that it has consistently encouraged peaceful coexistence and cultural understanding among Nigerians from different ethnic and social backgrounds.

He also praised both the Federal Government and the Osun State Government for their continued support, which he said had contributed to the achievements recorded by the scheme in the state over the years.

The coordinator further commended members of staff for their dedication and commitment toward sustaining the objectives of the programme.

He encouraged corps members to remain disciplined, hardworking, and committed to the ideals of service, patriotism, and integrity.

Kubiangha assured that the NYSC would continue to uphold the principles upon which it was founded while supporting national development and unity.

Also speaking at the event, the South-West Director (1) of the scheme overseeing Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti states, Mrs Oluukola Abiodun, applauded the Director-General of the NYSC, Brig.-Gen. Nafiu Olakunle, alongside staff members for their efforts in strengthening the scheme.

She described the programme as an important platform that exposes young graduates to broader life experiences and realities beyond their immediate backgrounds.

Abiodun also appealed to the Federal Government to provide greater support for the scheme to enable it to achieve its objectives more effectively and sustain its contributions to national development.
