The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted Salem University, Lokoja, approval to launch postgraduate programmes and a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Alewo Johnson-Akubo disclosed this in Lokoja on Monday, noting that the approval followed a thorough accreditation and evaluation exercise by the commission.
He explained that the newly approved postgraduate programmes include Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Master of Science (MSc), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in Biochemistry, Mass Communication, and International Relations.
Describing the development as a major milestone in the university’s pursuit of academic excellence, Johnson-Akubo said the institution’s investment in laboratories, classrooms, libraries, and digital infrastructure played a significant role in meeting NUC standards.
According to him, the achievement reflects Salem University’s commitment to nurturing world-class leaders through quality education and strong moral values.
He added that admission into the approved programmes will begin immediately alongside other courses for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Johnson-Akubo commended the Founding Chancellor, Archbishop Sam Amaga, and the entire university community for their dedication and contributions toward achieving this landmark approval.
