NSC Throws Support Behind Amusan, Brume as They Lead Team Nigeria to Tokyo 2025

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has restated its commitment to fully backing Team Nigeria as preparations intensify for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

The event is scheduled to hold from Sept. 13 to Sept. 21.

A statement by Kola Daniel, a media aide to the Director-General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, said he urged the athletes to give their best and bring honour to the country.

He was also quoted as saying that the commission and Nigerians were firmly behind the team.

“From the beginning, the NSC chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, declared that Nigeria must get it right in athletics,” Olopade said.

“This is a moment of pride. We trust our athletes to compete with determination and secure podium finishes.

“The commission will continue to support them and stand behind them as they fly our flag in Tokyo.”

Olopade would be in Tokyo to provide frontline support to the team throughout the competition.

The 15-member contingent is headlined by world record holder in the 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, alongside long jump sensation Ese Brume.

They will compete with a blend of experienced and rising stars across sprints, jumps, throws, and hurdles, as Nigeria aims to make a strong statement on the global stage.
