NOC congratulates Falcons for Olympic Games qualification

The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has congratulated the Super Falcons over their qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Habu Gumel, the NOC President, said this in a statement by Tony Nezianya, the Public Relations Officer of NOC on Friday in Abuja. He congratulated the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Super Falcons, on their outstanding achievement in qualifying for the tournament.

He said that the performance of the Falcons was truly exceptional, particularly the 1-0 victory in Abuja against their South African counterparts, the Bayana Bayana.

He said that it was pertinent to recall that the national team broke a 16-year-old jinx – the last time they made it was 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Newsmen reports that no fewer than 50 athletes have so far qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. These include Athletics five, Basketball 12, Boxing three, Canoeing two, Cycling one, Football, Female 22, Taekwondo one and Wrestling six.

Newsmen also reported that the Nigeria’s boxing team could qualify more boxers if they attend Olympic qualifiers in Thailand, while weightlifting could have at least two slots when their latest rankings are released in May.
