The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has projected thunderstorms and rainfall across different parts of the country between Monday and Wednesday.
According to the agency’s weather outlook released in Abuja, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected on Monday morning over Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba states. Later in the day, thunderstorms are likely to spread across the northern region, with flash floods possible in Adamawa, Taraba, and Gombe.
In the central states, a mix of cloudy skies and sunshine is expected on Monday morning, with moderate rainfall in Niger, Kogi, Kwara, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Benue. Thunderstorms are forecast to develop across much of the region by afternoon and evening.
For the south, cloudy skies are anticipated on Monday morning, followed by moderate rains in Ekiti, Ondo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River. Rainfall is likely to intensify across most of the region later in the day.
On Tuesday, the northern region will begin with cloudy skies and sunshine intervals, with isolated thunderstorms expected over Borno, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, and Adamawa. By afternoon, thunderstorms and moderate rainfall are forecast in Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Taraba.
The central region will also see cloudy skies with sunshine intervals in the morning, with moderate rainfall predicted in Kogi, Niger, the FCT, Kwara, and Nasarawa. Later in the day, thunderstorms are likely in Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, and the FCT.
In the south, cloudy skies are expected on Tuesday morning with chances of moderate rainfall in Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Delta. Light to moderate rains are anticipated across most of the region by afternoon.
By Wednesday, cloudy conditions with sunny intervals are expected over the northern states, with light rains possible in Sokoto and Zamfara during the morning. Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are forecast for Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto.
The central region will also experience cloudy skies on Wednesday morning, with light rainfall expected in the FCT, Kogi, Kwara, and Niger. Thunderstorms are predicted later in the day over Benue, Kwara, Kogi, and Niger.
In the southern region, cloudy skies are likely on Wednesday morning, with moderate rainfall expected by afternoon and evening.
NiMet advised motorists to avoid driving during heavy downpours, while farmers were urged not to apply fertilisers or pesticides just before rainfall to prevent leaching. The agency also encouraged residents to secure loose items, disconnect electrical appliances, and stay away from tall trees during storms.
