The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a mix of sunshine and cloudiness across the country from Monday to Wednesday, with chances of isolated thunderstorms in parts of the South.
In its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet predicted predominantly sunny and cloudy skies over the northern region throughout the forecast period.
For the southern region, the agency said sunny skies with patches of clouds are expected, alongside the possibility of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall later in the day over parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.
On Tuesday, NiMet projected sunny and hazy conditions over the northern and central regions, while the southern region is expected to experience sunny skies with cloud patches. Thunderstorms with light rain are likely in parts of Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states during the morning hours. Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated over Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Bayelsa states.
For Wednesday, the agency forecast sunny and hazy skies over the northern region in the morning, with dust haze expected in the afternoon and evening. The central region is also expected to experience sunny and hazy conditions throughout the day.
NiMet predicted cloudy skies with sunny intervals in the southern region during the morning, with chances of isolated thunderstorms and light rainfall over parts of Anambra, Imo, Abia, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states.
The agency warned that dust particles remain in suspension over the North Central region and advised the public to take necessary precautions. People with asthma and other respiratory conditions were urged to be cautious.
NiMet also advised motorists to drive carefully during rainfall and urged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective flight planning. Residents were encouraged to stay updated with weather information through NiMet’s official channels.
