The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to supporting the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) and the wider creative industry as part of efforts to position Nigeria as Africa’s leading tourism hub.
Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, made this known on Thursday in Lagos during an event titled “Patron’s Dinner with the Jury” hosted by AFRIMA.
Musawa described the creative industry as central to Nigeria’s future and pledged the government’s full backing for initiatives that promote arts, culture, and entertainment.
“The creative sector holds the key to our nation’s progress, and AFRIMA plays a critical role in that journey,” she said. “We believe in the power of creativity to shape Nigeria’s destiny, which is why AFRIMA enjoys our unwavering support. It embodies the promise of Nigeria’s creative future.”
She further emphasised the importance of collaboration with stakeholders to unlock opportunities across the sector.
“We are open to working with partners at all levels and will continue to extend our reach to strengthen Nigeria’s tourism. Building partnerships across the board is essential, and we will keep expanding our efforts to boost tourism nationwide,” Musawa added.
AFRIMA President, Mike Dada, said the platform leverages music as a strategic tool to enhance Africa’s presence in the global creative economy. According to him, AFRIMA’s mission extends beyond celebrating talent to telling Africa’s authentic story on the international stage.
“Music is a powerful unifying force that bridges cultural divides across Africa while positioning the continent competitively in the global market,” Dada said. “Our aim is not only to celebrate African music but to use it as a platform to shape perceptions, foster unity, and unlock cross-border economic opportunities. AFRIMA will continue to amplify African voices globally and cement the continent’s place in the creative and cultural industries.”
The Patron’s Dinner with the Jury drew celebrities from various sectors, underscoring AFRIMA’s role in uniting diverse players in the creative space.
Since its inception, AFRIMA has been instrumental in showcasing African music, culture, and identity to the world, while promoting unity among nations. The 2025 edition will be held in Lagos from November 25 to 30.
