Nigerian Navy Commissions Eight Housing Units in Calabar

The Nigerian Navy has commissioned eight two-bedroom apartment units at the Ikot Ansa Senior Staff Quarters as part of ongoing efforts to enhance the welfare and living conditions of its personnel while improving operational effectiveness.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Monday in Calabar, the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, announced that similar housing developments are planned for Port Harcourt and Uyo.

He was represented at the event by Rear Admiral Chidozie Okehie, the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command, who reiterated the navy’s commitment to prioritising the welfare of officers and ratings.

According to him, improved accommodation is essential for boosting morale and strengthening the service’s capacity to combat maritime crimes effectively.

He noted that the service has deliberately focused on addressing accommodation shortfalls within its ranks to improve overall readiness.

He also urged beneficiaries of the new housing units to maintain them properly in order to ensure their long-term use and sustainability.

Vice Admiral Abbas further restated the navy’s resolve to continue initiating new housing projects while also completing ongoing ones inherited from previous administrations.

He explained that the newly completed apartments form part of existing projects being delivered in phases across different naval formations.

The event marked another step in the navy’s broader welfare and infrastructure development efforts aimed at improving personnel well-being and operational efficiency.
