Nigeria Reaffirms Commitment to Dialogue with Niger on Peace, Stability

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to engaging the Republic of Niger through constructive dialogue to promote peace and stability in the sub-region.

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Kimiebi Ebienfa, to mark Niger’s National Day. The statement conveyed Tuggar’s congratulatory message to his Nigerien counterpart, Mr Bakary Sangaré, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Nigeriens Abroad.

Tuggar said the National Day celebration reflected the historic struggle and collective resolve of the Nigerien people in attaining self-governance and shaping their national identity. He noted that Nigeria, as a close neighbour bound to Niger by geography, history and shared communities, joined in recognising the milestone and honouring the nation’s enduring spirit of unity and perseverance.

The minister подчеркed that Nigeria and Niger share deep-rooted ties founded on mutual respect, cultural affinity and long-standing cooperation. According to him, both countries have collaborated over the years in areas such as border security, regional stability, trade facilitation, agriculture and infrastructure development through platforms including ECOWAS, the African Union, the Lake Chad Basin Commission and the United Nations.

Tuggar reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to sustain dialogue, strengthen collaboration and support initiatives that promote peace, stability and development in the sub-region, while wishing the government and people of Niger continued resilience, national cohesion and progress.
